This bullying prevention game is designed for school-age children and can be played in classrooms, homes, or in therapy settings. There is no limit as to how many people can play this game at once.
This game is designed to help children develop specific anti-bullying coping skills. One of the most effective methods to teach children coping skills is by way of peer confrontation (role-plays). When children are confronted with specific confrontational statements within a controlled structured setting, they are more prone to learn and implement specific skills to help them cope with issues of bullying.
A child role-playing with his/her peers is more powerful than role-playing with an adult. Children who bully typically bully other children and not adults. Therefore, a child role-playing with other children is very effective in terms of teaching him/her specific coping skills primarily because role-plays are perceived as more genuine and true to life.
This game teaches children:
- Anti-bullying coping skills.
- Communication skills.
- Conflict resolution skills.
- Confrontational skills.
- How the self-esteem affects bullying.
- Profiles of bullies and their victims.
- The importance of and how to place boundaries on friendships.
- Anger management skills.
- The importance of body language and its affect on bullying.
Since peer confrontation is a sensitive issue for some children, this game should be played in a light-hearted, relaxed, supportive, re-assuring, and fun atmosphere. It is appropriate for the children to have fun during peer confrontation (role-plays) than to take the role-plays too literally or seriously. Laughter would help the children conceptualize inappropriate verbalizations with humor, which is another anti-bullying coping skill.
